Privacy Policy

Scope and operator

This policy applies to the My People app and these support pages, operated by Opening step · developer Hyeongyu Jang. Send privacy questions to dfrc.jhg@gmail.com.

My People has no sign-up or login. It shows no ads and includes no analytics or ad-measurement tools.

Your data is stored on your phone

The people you add (names, phone numbers, email addresses, companies, job titles, notes, and photos), contact history, families and family get-togethers, important dates, give & take records, tags, and settings (together, "your data") are stored in the app's storage on your phone, and in your phone's backups as described below. The operator never receives your data on a server and cannot see it.

Deleting the app deletes your data. Because no copy exists on the operator's servers, the operator cannot restore it for you.

Your phone's backups

Your data is included in your phone's own backups: iCloud Backup or a computer backup on iPhone, and Google device backup on Android, when those are turned on. Apple and Google handle these backups according to your account and device settings. On Android, your data goes into cloud backups only when the device can encrypt the backup end to end.

Scheduled notifications are not backed up; the app schedules them again the next time you open it. Widget summaries and photo copies are not backed up on Android and may be included in iPhone backups; either way, the app recreates them when you open it.

Deleting the app doesn't remove copies already in your phone's backups. You can delete those in your iCloud Backup or computer backup settings on iPhone, or in your Google backup settings on Android.

Permissions the app uses

The app asks for a permission only when you use the feature that needs it. If you decline, everything else keeps working.

  • Contacts: to choose people from your contacts. Only the names, phone numbers, and other details of the people you choose are copied into your data, and your contacts are never sent to a server.
  • Camera: to scan business cards, and to scan a QR code when you move to a new phone.
  • Photos: to pick a photo of a business card. Only the one photo you pick is passed to the app.
  • Notifications: to schedule your morning summary and date reminders on your phone.
  • Local network (iPhone): to connect to your other phone on the same Wi‑Fi when you move your data.

Business card scanning

Reading text from a business card photo happens on your phone. iPhone uses Apple Vision, and Android uses Google ML Kit, which is built into the app. Neither the card photo nor the text read from it is sent to the operator or to Google (for diagnostic information on Android, see below). The card photo is deleted right after its text is read and is never saved as a person's photo.

On Android, when you scan a business card or the QR code for moving to a new phone, Google ML Kit sends diagnostic information to Google: device model and OS version, the app's name and version, a per-installation identifier, processing times, and error codes. Your data, photos, and the text read from them are never sent. Google says it uses this information for diagnostics and usage analytics and does not share it with third parties. This doesn't apply on iPhone. See Google's ML Kit data disclosure for details.

Widgets

The widget shows a summary of things for today and small copies of people's photos. This information is kept in the widget's shared space on your phone, and the app never sends it anywhere. On the Lock Screen widget, names are hidden while your phone is locked (depending on your iPhone settings).

Moving to a new phone and data files

When you move to a new phone, the two phones on the same Wi‑Fi connect directly to each other; nothing goes through an internet server. The transfer is encrypted with a one-time key contained in the QR code.

When you export your data, the app creates a file encrypted with a password you choose and saves it wherever you pick (the Files app, a cloud drive, email, and so on). The app never uploads this file anywhere and does not store the password. If you forget the password, the file can't be opened.

Subscriptions and payments

Subscription payments are handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play. The app never asks for your card number or store account password. The app checks your subscription status with the store from your phone, and records in your data only the date your free trial started and whether you have ever subscribed. Payments, purchase history, and refunds follow each store's policies.

Support requests

If you contact us by email, your reply address, your message, and anything you choose to attach are used only to answer you and solve the problem. Please don't send your data or other people's contact details.

Support requests are handled by developer Hyeongyu Jang through Gmail. Messages are kept for 30 days after we reply and then deleted. If you ask us to delete them sooner, we will, unless the law requires us to keep them. Gmail data is processed in Google's facilities and may be processed on servers outside your country.

These support pages

These pages are served by Google Firebase Hosting. They contain no ads, no visitor analytics scripts, no external fonts, and no login or input forms. When you open a page, the hosting provider may process your IP address and similar information to deliver the page and protect the service. Firebase privacy information

Your rights and changes to this policy

Because your data is kept on your phone rather than on our servers, you can view, correct, or delete it yourself in the app (edit or delete a person, or delete the app). Copies in your phone's backups can be deleted in those backup settings. For requests about support messages we hold, contact dfrc.jhg@gmail.com.

If how we handle information changes, we will post the change and its effective date on this page and update the privacy details on the app stores.
